  • DATES:The 8U season runs from early May through mid- to late June.

  • TRYOUTS: No evaluations("tryouts") for 8U.
  • PRACTICES:  TBD, subject to coaches' availability. Location will be at Manor Park in Shorewood.
  • HALFTIME SCRIMMAGE AT MHS VARSITY GAME:  May 14, 5pm
    • 8U players will run an inter-squad scrimmage at halftime during the MHS "Minnetonka Lacrosse Night" home game vs. Eden Prairie.  Our players will line up with varsity players for the national anthem at the start of the game and will welcome varsity players to the field during introductions with a "high-five tunnel."
  • SCRIMMAGES: 8U players will scrimmage with other associations' 8U teams as available; potential for participation in Youth Lacrosse Minnesota ("YLM") end-of-season jamboree if we have sufficient interest.
  • REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: helmet, shoulder pads, arm/elbow pads, gloves, mouth guard, protective cup, and lacrosse stick. Starter kits are available online or at local stores. MLA can provide rental lacrosse sticks, if needed, on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact the boys' youth director for more information about rental sticks. Equipment from others sports willbe permitted at this age segment, e.g., hockey helmet, hockey gloves and hockey shoulder pads, but lacrosse gloves are strongly recommended for their increased dexterity and lacrosse helmets would be required for participation in YLM jamboree.
  • MLA uniforms will be included with registration fee.
  • US Lacrosse Youth Membership ($30) required.

SUMMER 10U

  • COST: $450

  • SUMMARY: 10U players will be participating in Youth Lacrosse Minnesota ("YLM") league play against other community-based lacrosse associations. At the 10U segment, YLM play features:
    • Small-sided (7v7) games played on a modified field to encourage passing and allow for more ball touches.
    • Heavily modified NFHS rules that generally adhere to US Lacrosse's rules for youth play. These rules focus on player safety, e.g., by prohibiting above-the-shoulder stick checks, one-handed stick checks, and nearly all body checking.
    • The two-pass rule (a/k/a the "Hot Rule") will be enforced during games to encourage passing pursuant to YLM policy.
  • PLAYER EVALUATIONS("TRYOUTS"):
    • April 27-28, Badger Park, Time TBA
      • Date and time subject to change based on weather conditions.
    • All players are required to attend tryouts, which will be used to determine proper player placement so that we can create balanced 10U teams.
    • Find complete tryout details towards the bottom of this page under "Minnetonka Youth Boys Lacrosse Player Evaluation Information for Summer 2019."
  • TOURNAMENTS
    • Players will attend one of the following, depending on team assignment and player availability:
      • Viking Goat, June 1-2, Farmington, MN
      • Bait Bucket, June 7-9, Bloomington, MN
  • PRACTICES: Practices will begin in early May, weather and field conditions permitting. On average, players can expect two to three practices per week in May and one to two practices per week in June and July (plus one league game per week).
  • GAMES: League games will begin the week of June 4. Youth Lacrosse Minnesota ("YLM") typically releases the game schedule between Memorial Day and June 1. On average, 10U teams play one game per week, but scheduling conditions may require two games per week in YLM's discretion, not including make-up games. YLM will not schedule games July 3-5, but has reserved the right to use those dates as needed for make-up games.
